🚗 FOR CAR DRIVERS
Before leaving:
✅ Check tyres, brakes, battery, lights and wipers
✅ Ensure you have enough fuel
✅ Carry a torch, power bank, first-aid kit and emergency cash
✅ Keep a spare tyre, jack, wheel spanner and towing rope
✅ Avoid known flood-prone routes
✅ Drive slowly and maintain a safe distance
🏍️ FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS
Before riding:
✅ Check tyres, brakes, lights, chain and general condition
✅ Wear a proper helmet and reflective gear
✅ Carry waterproof rain gear and protect your phone/documents
✅ Carry a charged phone/power bank and basic first-aid kit
✅ Reduce speed and increase your following distance
✅ Avoid flooded roads and areas with poor visibility
👨👩👧👦 FOR PASSENGERS
Whether travelling by car, matatu or motorcycle:
✅ Wear your seat belt whenever provided
✅ On motorcycles, always wear a properly fitted helmet
✅ Avoid distracting the driver or rider
✅ Keep children properly secured and supervised
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather
✅ If the vehicle approaches dangerous floodwater, speak up and encourage the driver to turn back
🚶 FOR PEDESTRIANS
⚠️ Be extra careful when walking during heavy rains.
✅ Wear visible/reflective clothing where possible
✅ Use safe walkways and avoid flooded paths
✅ Do not walk through moving or deep water
✅ Stay away from open drains, rivers and flooded bridges
✅ Be careful around vehicles, especially where visibility is poor
✅ Keep children away from flooded areas and drainage channels
✅ If possible, wait for dangerous conditions to improve before travelling

Floodwater can hide open drains, potholes, washed-out roads, collapsed sections and other dangerous obstacles.
